The Boyertown community prepares to celebrate the arrival of spring with Building a Better Boyertown (BaBB)’s annual Coming Out of Hibernation event. The event will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with a rain date on Sunday, April 16, 2023.

Each year, downtown Boyertown fills with residents, visitors, and their families on the third Saturday in April to enjoy fun games and activities, local artisan goods for sale, and tasty food – all with a nod to the warm and vibrant spring season. 2023's Coming Out of Hibernation celebration promises to be bigger and better than ever.

A "Wake the Bear" ceremony will begin the day at 10:30 a.m. with the alumni band and Mayor Carnes encouraging children to help get the bear out of his cave.

Families are welcome to gather and enjoy East Philadelphia Avenue, which will become a festival of 80 brightly colored vendor booths selling their wares. The event provides an occasion to enjoy brunch or lunch at Boyertown restaurants or visiting food trucks.

Local businesses and organizations will offer games and crafts. Entertainment includes the Alumni Band, Steel Hemlock, Funky Frets Uke Group, Kookoo the Magician magic show, Rufflez the Clown balloon animals, a moon bounce, and a petting zoo. Entertainment, vendors, food trucks and bar menu are all on the website!

Guests 21 years and older can head to the Colebrookdale railyard to enjoy the drink recipes from Stirrups Mobile Bar. Rebel Hive Meadery and Stonekeep Meadery will have tables in the yard featuring fun spring cocktails, wine, and local mead as well as a winery for sampling and sales.

“Coming Out of Hibernation is one of our longest running events,” says Ellen Martignetti, Main Street Manger. “This used to be a small event, and it has grown so much. It’s wonderful how many visitors enjoy spending their day here!”

BaBB’s goal for its street festival events is to provide an opportunity for area residents to come together and enjoy a special moment without having to travel far or spend a lot of money. “It’s something that many people look forward to every year,” states Assistant Manager Kim Evans. “Within a few days of creating the Facebook Event Page, hundreds of people have responded, interested in attending.”

Coming Out of Hibernation is free to attend, though some activities may incur a fee. For more information, including a list of participating vendors and entertainment, contact Ellen Martignetti 610-369-3054, manager@boyertownpa.org or visit www.buildingabetterboyertown.org/hibernation.
