By Margaret Leidy Harner from her book One Day at a Time: A Social History of Boyertown, PA.
January 11, 1895: Boyertown native Bob Gehris has struck it rich and is now living in elegant style in Paris. He left Boyertown ten years ago and has since traveled extensively.
Reportedly, a very wealthy New York widow named him her heir and has left him a very considerable sum of money. He is evidently bent on seeing the world with the spoils of his sudden and unexpected inheritance.
Bob is a “finely built young man, a veritable Apollo in appearance” who would attract attention anywhere. He is very fond of his parents and no doubt will share his good fortune with them. “A man with his character is bound to make his mark on the world.”
Sunny, with a high of 81 and low of 60 degrees. Sunny in the morning, clear overnight.
Kudos to Zack! In these troubled times, the world could use many more people like him. And kudos to Boyertown for providing the kind of atmosphere where Zack (and others like him) can grove and thrive. Finally, is the book mentioned still available? I'd like to buy one as I remember all of the people mentioned.
Yes, Mark. The books are available at Studio B Art Gallery and the Building a Better Boyertown office.
