It's The Little Things...: Beth Glick's Artistic Eyes Find Beauty at a Highway Rest Stop

Regardless of where the artist is or what s/he is doing, s/he will always see things "through different eyes." The artist sees similarities and differences we do not notice. The artist sees relationships derived from connections we do not make. So it is not surprising that Beth Glick's eyes saw relationships that motivated her to compose the artistic photos below...taken at, of all places,  a highway rest stop.

Regarding the photo above, Beth shares, "When I walked into the restroom I saw two women at the counter, fixing their hair. I come from a long line of Mennonites, so that didn't seem so weird to me, but then the other woman came out and it was such a contrast in one way but in the other way they were very similar. They were both wearing head coverings because of their religious convictions." This observation caused Beth to see the women as more alike than different.

Beth admits to "stalking" the women in the photo below to capture this black and white shot. She recalls, "This one was taken on a sweltering hot day when I was wilted and I saw these two cute ladies coming out of the restroom fresh as daisies in their cute little summer dresses with awesome patterns and I knew it would make a great black and white photo." Beth notes that her favorite photos are those of "everyday life."

[Beth is a 1980 grad of Boyertown Area Senior High. Most of her days are spent helping out at Glick's Nursery in neighboring Oley.]
