LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. (Jun. 16, 2026) — Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH)–Cedar Crest and LVH–Muhlenberg, part of Jefferson Health, are among 37 U.S. hospitals recognized as Leaders in Caring for People With Diabetes, a distinction awarded by the American Diabetes Association and The Leapfrog Group. The designation reflects high performance in delivering safe, evidence-based care for hospitalized patients with diabetes during admission, hospital stay and discharge.
“Delivering high-quality diabetes care requires consistency, coordination and a strong focus on patient safety at every step,” said Bob Begliomini, PharmD, Executive Vice President, Regional President, Jefferson Health - Lehigh Valley Region. “This recognition reflects how our teams apply evidence-based practices, support patients throughout their stay and help them transition safely from the hospital to home.”

The program recognizes hospitals aligned with the ADA’s Standards of Care in Diabetes and Leapfrog’s standards for excellence in hospital safety and quality. Hospitals are assessed on the implementation of these processes and on how well they execute care delivered to patients.

Among the standards recognized:

  • Blood glucose (blood sugar) testing and hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) protocols
  • Specialized preparation for inpatient surgery
  • Meal and insulin regimen planning
  • Robust discharge planning for high-risk patients with diabetes
  • Patient safety standards

LVH–Cedar Crest and LVH–Muhlenberg offer comprehensive diabetes care and education, connecting patients with clinicians and educators who provide guidance on nutrition, medications and treatment plans. This coordinated approach helps patients better manage their condition during and after hospitalization.
