You Can Help Bring Ron Home

In keeping with this summer's Studio B community theme of "In Service," sometimes the best service we can provide to others is simply donating money.

Donating money can be a gracious form of service because it allows us to help others without expecting anything in return. A financial gift, whether large or small, can provide resources that an individual, family, organization, or community may need but cannot easily provide for themselves. In that sense, giving is not simply about the money; it is an expression of compassion, generosity, and a willingness to share what we have for the benefit of others.

There is humility in financial giving. Not everyone has the time, skills, or ability to serve hands-on, but almost everyone has something they can share. A donation can help make someone else's work possible, support a worthy cause, or bring relief and opportunity to someone facing difficulty. When given freely and thoughtfully, money becomes more than a possession—it becomes a means of serving others and strengthening the community.

Ronnie Leh sat in my English classroom during the 1974-75 school year. He was in 12th grade and it was my first year teaching at Boyertown. He was a genuinely nice kid... a little bit of a comedian, but not in troublesome ways. The way he dressed, the way he spoke, his values-- Ronnie was a throwback to the Pennsylvania Dutch culture that was once extremely prevalent in the Boyertown area. He didn’t work hard at school; it wasn’t the thing he cared about. He worked at being a good person. Now we have an opportunity to be good people too.
