Boyertown Says Good-bye to Greg Miller: Local and Loved Police Officer, Firefighter

Gregory L. Miller, 66, of Boyertown passed away in the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire while on the “guys” annual ski trip to Killington, Vermont on Wednesday February 1, 2023.
Born in the old Pottstown Hospital on July 18 ,1956 he was a son of the late F. Daniel Miller and Gail L. (Neiman) Miller of Boyertown.
Greg was married 46 years to the love of his life, Christine M. (Heydt) Miller. He is also survived by his son, Jarid C. Miller of Boyertown, Grandchildren, Benjamin D. Miller and Emily M. Miller both at home and a brother, Brent D. Miller (Sheri) of Boyertown. Greg also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and the Boyertown Community which he loved.
He graduated from Boyertown Area Senior High School with the Class of 1974. After graduating, he worked at Ajax Products, Inc in Boyertown, PA.
Greg started his law enforcement career in 1981, entered the police academy in 1982 and graduated First in his Class from the Police Academy in 1983.
He served the citizens of the Borough of Boyertown from 1981 until his retirement in 2019.
After retiring fulltime from the Boyertown Police, he went on to become the School Resource Officer at Boyertown Area Senior High School from October 2011 to the summer of 2019.
His next move was to Daniel Boone School District as the District Director of Safety and Security from 2019 until 2021 when he decided to retire.
He was a life member of the Friendship Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1 of Boyertown as a past assistant chief, firefighter and operator serving for over 40 years. He also served as a Trustee, Vice President of the Social Club and active Board Member of the recently formed Boyertown Area Fire & Rescue.
Greg was an active member with the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 71 to which he first joined in 1985. He served as Chairman of the Compensation Committee and as a voting delegate attending numerous functions and conventions.

Boyertown Lions Community Ambulance, Boyertown Area YMCA, Berks Youth Aid Panel, Boyertown Parks and Rec Board, The former Berks Mont Police Association, Dave Faust 881 Race Team, Blue Knights PA III Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club
When Greg wasn’t involved in any community activities, you could find him in the mountains of Vermont enjoying the weather, sitting on a beach enjoying one of his microbrews, taking in a round of golf with his great friends and his wife or simply riding around the campgrounds on his e-bike. His greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his grandkids.
Greg was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and his newfound love of fishing with his grandkids.
His life will be celebrated at the Friendship Hook and Ladder Fire Company, 10 Warwick St., Boyertown, PA. 19512 on Sunday February 19, 2023 starting at 11:30 am. A full Police Honors Ceremony will commence after arrival of procession with Chief Barry Leatherman officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gregory’s name to Berks FOP Lodge 71 Police Memorial Fund, 776 Mount Laurel Rd. Temple, PA 19560 or to the Boyertown Area Fire and Rescue.
