Recently the TriCounty Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual Boyertown Area Progress Dinner. "There's no place like home" was the event theme. But there is no doubt that "home" is changing.
If you take a drive on Congo Road, Gilbertsville Road, Middlecreek Road, and countless others, you will see a variety of new home developments, some offering single homes; others offering townhouses. The homes seem to spring up overnight and as quickly as they are built, they are sold and occupied.
Many new residents explain that they moved to this area to "get away from the city." But are they leaving the city or, because of their sheer numbers, are they bringing the city with them. Is the Boyertown area becoming a Philadelphia suburb?
Philadelphia Magazine's most recent issue tackles this question and a few others in an article titled The Philly Suburbs Are Bigger Than Ever-- Literally. The article asks, "As suburbs continue to grow and push outward, we're left to grapple with the bigger question-- what does it mean to be from here? And what does 'here' even mean?" This article poses these questions about Philadelphia, but they also apply to the Boyertown area.
We invite you to read this thought-provoking article here.
We then suggest that you check out the magazine's companion article: 9 Suburban Towns Pushing the Boundaries of the Philadelphia Region. You may see some familiar places!
