History: StoryWalk®Boyertown, PA 7/24/23
Those in the Boyertown area are familiar with the StoryWalk® at the Boyertown Park. A StoryWalk® is when book pages are displayed along a trail or walking path to encourage literacy and outdoor experiences. The library installs a new story every month.
Support for the StoryWalk® has been a community effort, with the proceeds from the Annual Disc Golf Tournament hosted by the library’s Fundraising Committee and Phat Cats Disco Golf group, funding the installation of a permanent StoryWalk® in July 2023. Cement and other supplies were generously donated by AD Moyer Lumber.
Studio B’s “The Three Bears” summer project, funded by a grant from the Berks County Community Foundation, includes a variety of bear-themed activities, organized by businesses, other non-profits, and individuals in the community.
Twenty years ago, Bear Fever debuted over 30 bear sculptures at Boyertown High School’s annual Arts Expo. During the summer of 2005, those 30+ bear sculptures appeared throughout the community. Today, the original sculptures are joined by dozens more—over 90 at last count—and more are “in the works.” “Apparently, this community is still not even looking for a cure for Bear Fever,” quips Jane Stahl, founder of the project along with her husband Paul.
