A grant was awarded to Boyertown Community Library to continue their efforts as a community center for lifelong learning in conjunction with the Berks County Community Foundation’s mission to support nonprofit meeting places where community groups can gather in Boyertown Borough and/or the public library. The grant was in the amount of $24,900.00 in support of community activities.
“We are very excited about the opportunities the grant provides for us to serve our community. It will allow us to continue to offer popular programs such as Lunch Time Yoga, as well as new opportunities like computer classes to those who need skills to obtain jobs. We are also looking into offering cooking classes, and much more,” says director Denise Pulgino Stout. “Hopefully there will be something for everyone.”
Libraries are well known for being homes for literacy and learning, but in recent years, they have become home to STEM learning as well. STEM, (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is hands-on learning meant to empower and engage. Using this grant, the Boyertown Community Library plans to increase in-house technology for patrons. With new laptops, iPads, and bots for the youth department, more STEM related programming will be implemented.
