Studio B Fine Art Gallery announces award-winners at the opening of “What Inspires YOU? Juror for the awards was Will Dexter of Taylor Backes Glass Studio.

Best in Show: Jim Meehan

“Best in Show” was awarded to Jim Meehan, a New York cartoonist, for his pen on paper drawing entitled “Albrecht Dürer Gathers His Thoughts.” Jim is frequently chosen for awards by jurors who represent many artistic styles, mediums, or forms or associations in the art field. His work is nuanced with underlying meanings, references, and allusions.

A “B Inspired” podcast episode that will drop on Friday, September 15, 2023, explores Jim’s background and intention; he admits that he wants to be “obscure,” to retain some mystery. The podcast can be found on a variety of platforms including Anchor FM, Spotify, Google, Castbox, Breaker, Overcast, Pocket Casts, and RadioPublic, and Apple.

Joe Szimhart’s oil entitled “Dingo Dreaming” suggests influences from Joe’s many years living in the Southwest in which he explored alternate belief systems. “B Inspired” podcast episodes provide insight about his spiritual journey and influence on his art.

Cathy Montes’ bronze sculpture “One More Gesture” adds some wry humor.

Bob Hakun, another frequent award-winner, offers an assemblage entitled “Home Alone.”

Barby Bonett, a new artist exhibiting at Studio B was awarded Honorable Mention for her acrylic “My Moon Is in Scorpio,” in a nod to endangered species.

Suzanne Fellows was awarded for “21 Travelers,” accomplished utilizing the printing technique known as Tetra Pak Intaglio in which an etching needle is used to engrave an image into a metal plate, that will then be inked and used to print the design. The references for Suzanne’s “travelers” were inspired by folks who came for dinner at the venue where she is employed as hostess.
