Born a midwesterner, transplanted to the East in her teens, Kathy Kirk always loved travel, adventure, and being active. Retired from teaching Biology and Human Physiology at Boyertown Area Senior High, Kathy, a Boyertown area resident, now stays busy here in Pennsylvania, but also spends as much time as is feasible in Colorado where her daughter, son-in-law and grandkids live. Kathy notes that the skiing there isn't bad either. Along with outdoor activities, she enjoys singing, sewing, and a bit of writing.by Kathy Kirk.

- Just when we get comfortable with them…
They change.
- Thanksgiving at our house, the aunt’s house, our house…
We give thanks for family.
We move 1000 miles away.
New traditions must be started.
Things change.
- We marry.
Thanksgiving at our house, food from the garden & the hunt.
Both sets of parents, brothers, sister…
We give thanks.
A new tradition, until it isn’t.
Again, it changed.
- Our child marries.
Thanksgiving at the in-laws, at friends…
New traditions that aren’t traditional.
We give thanks.
Changing every year.
- What then this year?
Serving others?
Going out to dinner?
We still give thanks.
Traditions change.
We still give thanks.
- Giving THANKS is the tradition.
