In February, Boyertown Middle School East and West, along with BASH/YMCA, took 65 students to Pre-Legislative training in Central Dauphin as part of The Youth and Government education program (YAG). According to the group's adviser, the students represented themselves with "great character and exemplary behavior."
History teacher and group adviser, Mr. John Howard, shares, "They are working in many roles including:
"I know so many of you have supported this YMCA/school partnership over the years and we are so grateful. The YAG club truly has opened opportunities up to so many students," Howard continues.
BASH junior Kailey Reinboth is running for the PA Youth Governor and is going up against five strong candidates from across the state. She will be running for this elected position, while maintaining all of her academic requirements at BASH. She is a product of great educators at all levels, YAG advisors in Middle School, and the YMCA/BASH, as well as administrators, who fostered her growth. Howard describes Kailey as "built for this moment and a product of a strong Boyertown community."
Turning to other plans, Howard shares, that the group with around 70 students from East and West Middle Schools and the BASH/YMCA club will be in Harrisburg from April 24-27. The Capitol is open to visitors to view the program. "This year is special with Kailey running, so please consider visiting on Friday or Saturday to show support as she embarks on this challenge. As her slogan says, Boyertown hopes that PA YAG makes the smart choice to 'Cross with Reinboss,'" Howard concludes.
