Third time was a charm for John Schlegel in his destination hunt for mountain goats. When John shares his stories of his destination hunts, I am baffled at why someone would put themselves through the pain of physically preparing himself for the hunt and then spend over a week pushing his body to the limit to achieve the goal of the hunt. Or not.
Climbing and hiking 12 hours a day--up the mountains and then down: the two most difficult things John says he's ever done--much worse than his years playing water polo, a sport known for its brutal challenges to players.

But, as all athletes know, it's the thrill of victory that drives them. John shared on the "B Inspired" podcast his most recent hunt--successful after 3 tries-- to "bag" a mountain goat with bow and arrow. [Spoiler alert: circumstances interfered with his choice of weapon.]
John offers animal lovers and activists the knowledge that the number of hunts is monitored and restricted and that the meat from hunts is never wasted, but butchered and donated to local food banks at the hunter's expense.

John's goat shows signs of being injured by the talons during an unsuccessful capture by a bird of prey earlier in its life.
I learned a lot from his adventures and developed respect for the athleticism needed to achieve his goal. Although, perhaps I share a desire with his wife to limit the trophies from hunts that decorate their home and encourage them to reside instead at his place of business.
