Historic Steam Locomotive No. 5288 Visits Boyertown
On February 19th, our team proudly transported historic steam locomotive No. 5288 from our Glasgow restoration facilities to our station in Boyertown for public display for a while. We are thrilled to share this magnificent piece of railroad history with the tens of thousands of riders who visit us each year.
Built in June 1919 by Montreal Locomotive Works for the Canadian Government Railways as No. 1516, the locomotive was later renumbered 5288 under the Canadian National Railway. Classified as a 4-6-2 “Pacific” type, 5288 was designed for speed and elegance, representing the height of early 20th-century passenger steam power.
Following its retirement in 1960, the locomotive was acquired by preservation pioneer F. Nelson Blount, founder of Steamtown. It later became part of the collection at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum before finding its way to the Colebrookdale Railroad in 2023.
