Our Caboose No. 477768 was built in July of 1941 for the Pennsylvania Railroad for use on long freight trains, acting as the “Moving Home & Office” for Conductors and Brakemen as they traversed the country. The caboose has been designated for Passenger Service on the Colebrookdale Railroad.

Update on our PRR Caboose-47768:  Who doesn't love this cutie?

*Did you know that our caboose (cabin car) was built in 1941 for the Pennsylvania Railroad.

*The N5 series (introduced in the late 1910s and improved through the 1920s–40s) became the backbone of PRR caboose operations:

*Used on mainline freights across the entire PRR system they were designed as a mobile office and/or crew quarters.

*They were built tough for long hauls and harsh conditions.

*Many were later rebuilt (N5B variants) with upgrades like: improved  insulation, reinforced frames and updated safety appliances.

*Between 1960s–1980s most of the N5Bs were either scrapped or heavily altered- beyond recognition.

*This makes our 47768 part of a small surviving group.

*Our caboose was donated by John Pfaltz in 2014 and became the first piece of rolling stock owned by the Colebrookdale Railroad. That is what makes her special to us!

*Photos show some of  the work we just completed,

* Floor renovations, roof repairs, touch up paint and painting the trucks. She is currently on display for all to visit and we will be offering her to rent for private parties.

*Follow us on social media for updates.

It’s hands-on; it’s a little gritty, and it’s incredibly rewarding.

You’ll spend 8 weeks learning from skilled craftspeople, working on real equipment, and being part of something that actually lasts for generations. Oh—and yes, it’s paid!! 💯 We’re only taking a small group, so if you’re into history, trades, or just want a summer that’s way more interesting than the usual… this might be your  track.
