Optimist Club of Boyertown announce winners from local Oratorical contest

Local Students Win Optimist Club Oratorical Contest

     Leah Walters, recently won the Optimist Club of Boyertown oratorical contest based on a theme of Discovering the Optimism within Me

     Walters was awarded first place, and Jonas Smith was the runner up. Allison Riley was the second runner up. In addition, Leah and Jonas will attend the district level competition where they will compete against contestants from the Atlantic Central District at the May 6th district conferences with a chance to win scholarship money for college.

     “Leah, Jonas and Aly did a wonderful job presenting their speeches and we as a club were very impressed,” said program Chair Phil Haddad. “ It shows that Leah, Jonas, and Aly have a wonderful teacher who helped them prepare them for our Oratorical contest and Mrs. Kallis should be very proud of her students. It’s been a pleasure working with her and we look forward to working with her in the future. I think she would make a great optimist member. The members of our Optimist Club of Boyertown have no doubt that Leah, Jonas, and Aly have a bright future ahead of them.”

     Mrs. Stephanie Kallis, English teacher at Oley Valley High School added these comments. “The Optimist Club Oratorical Contest provided a terrific opportunity for students to practice and showcase their presentation skills,” said Kallis “Oley Valley High School contestants wrote and first delivered their speeches in their Public Speaking class. This contest offered a tremendous experience for everyone involved, and the two students who won the local competition are incredibly excited to participate at the next level. “

   Haddad would like to thank the Optimist Club of Boyertown for supporting the students who entered this event. He would also like to thank the judges for their help.

     The Optimist Club of Boyertown has been participating in the Optimist Oratorical Contest for 20 years and has been active in the community since 1959 Other programs and service projects that the Club is involved in include football, cheering, field hockey, basketball, boys’ lacrosse, girls’ lacrosse, softball, Youth Safety, Essay contest, Oratorical contest, Christmas tree sales.
