The "dog days" of summer seem to be over, but Bally will be "going to the dogs," Saturday, Sept. 10, when a day of activity will be offered for happy dogs and their owners.
A bake sale will begin in the pool/park parking lot beginning at 9 a.m. and for those who are still hungry, the pool snack bar will open at noon. The dog swim will also begin at noon and continue until 4 p.m. Fortunately, Accuweather is predicting a sunny day with a high of 81 degrees
The bake sale and dog swim are annual activities hosted by the Bally Area Recreational Society, which points out that people without dogs are welcome to enjoy the bake sale and snack bar too.
Proceeds from the event help underwrite the cost of recreational activities in the Borough of Bally.
At their website, the American Kennel Club (AKC) points out that not all breeds are equally equipped to be successful swimmers. For that reason, they suggest that when swimming, all dogs should wear a life vest. The site also "advises making sure the water temperature plus the air temperature equals at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit, since cold temperatures can cause problems for your dog." You can find additional information about water safety precautions for dogs at the AKC website.
The Bally community pool was built as a private facility by several families during the latter years of the 1960s. The land for the pool was donated by the founder of Bally Case & Cooler, a long time successful local company. In 1972, the pool's shareholders donated the facility to the Borough of Bally. Now even the dogs can enjoy the pool.
