Boyertown Girls Soccer is compiling a winning season in more than one way.

The team owns a 10 – 4 winning record on the field at this point in the season, including impressive shut-outs against Daniel Boone (4-0), Conrad Weiser (5-0), Norristown (7-0), Methacton (4-0), and Pope John Paul II (3-0).

Now the team has also earned bragging rights for academic excellence.

For the 16th straight year – yes, 16th-- the United Soccer Coaches Association has named Boyertown a “Team Academic Award Winner" for outstanding academic achievement in the classroom.

Annually United Soccer Coaches celebrates the achievement of student scholar-athletes who demonstrate academic excellence by earning a team grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. Boyertown girls soccer exceeded the minimum with a 3.69 team average this year.

The team GPA is for a whole year and is calculated by adding together every varsity roster member’s GPA, and then dividing by the number of players on the roster.

Two other local schools join Boyertown in winning this recognition, but none can claim a 16- year history like Boyertown. The other schools are Upper Perk (3.54/ 10 year recipient), and Methacton (3.86/3 year recipient).

Varsity team members include: seniors Corinne Bieber, Samantha Devlin, Bailey Leatherman, Madison Robbins, Karly Sheahan, Isabella Slupski, Jada Sokel;  juniors Sarah Campbell, Alina Friz, Quinn Gilmore, Marissa Hillegas, Autumn Levengood, Emily Walter, Ava Westrich; sophomores Ciera Cameron, Ava Carmichael, Harper Glennon; freshmen Madison Baker, Ava Leatherman, Laura Willing.

Way to go, girls!

The girls are coached by Bill Goddard.
