Boyertown area citizens working to help "Sister City," Ukrainians received this update from a friend, Svieta, on Nov. 18:

"Dear Linda,
I am sorry not to reply at once, I just couldn't do it. Firstly, I was too nervous feeling fear first, but not believing it might happen, and not knowing what to say, but then , when we were awaken by the sonds of bombs, being exploded not far from our house, it was late, because we were already on the wheels. It took us almost 53 hours to get from Kharkiv to Lviv. At the beginning we didn't know where to go, as we hadn't thought over it. The only thought was to safe our lives. We headed towards Dnepr, which is bordering with Kharkiv region. Then we made a plan to go to Lviv, as Znenya's company offered him a relocation to Lviv. So the way was long and hard. We slept in the car and has some food at the gas station. The roads were busy, sometimes it took us 8 hours to drive 20 km across the river bridge. While driving we saw the glows of bomb explosions. We reached Lviv on Saturday. Here my husband's colleagues gave us a room to stay. We have food, water and shelter. When there is an air alert, we go down the basement level to stay safe and avoid fighters and unguided air-to-surface missiles.

It sometimes seems like we are starring in an horror film and everything which is going on around is only a computer generated image

My relatives stayed in Bogodukhiv and Kharkiv and the enemy is sending missiles , trying to destroy the buildings and killing civilians. The roads and bridges are destroyed. Although our soldiers are fighting like lions and tigers, defending our motherland. I hope Ukraine will save its independence and won't become a part of Russia as Putin has been dreaming all 30 years since the times of the Soviet Dissolution. Ukrainians don't want to stay on the knees. This is a very brave an proud-hearted nation. God bless US! I hope our President will be with his people as well!"
