In Memoriam: Richard A. Mackey, Sr., Veteran and Community Youth Sports Coach

Richard A. Mackey Sr., 88, of Boyertown, Pennsylvania passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023, in the Pennsburg Manor. Born Dec. 11, 1935, in West Chester, PA, he was the last surviving son of Esther B. (Conn) and Edward D. Mackey.

Richard was an HVAC Master Technician during most of his professional career working in the field for over 25 years. He owned  his own business, Richard A. Mackey Heating and Air-conditioning in Sassamansville for the last 15 years. He last worked for Pep Boys part-time in Pottstown for 10 years in customer service and making deliveries until his retirement at the age of 75.

He enjoyed helping children and youth of all ages and abilities, coaching them in Little League baseball and in bowling at the Limerick Lanes, where he was a League bowler for many years. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, horseback riding, as well as all the animals and wildlife he came across in his travels.

Richard served as a private in the USAF from 1954-62 serving stateside and in the Pacific.

He is survived by his children, Teresa Mackey, wife of Steven J. Barnes of Bethlehem and Richard A., Jr. husband of Tracy L. Mackey of Colebrookdale. Grandchildren, Jessica L. Algarin, Victoria P. DeBebe, Cynthia M. King, Richard A. Mackey III, and Veronica L. Mackey. Step-granddaughter, Amanda E. Hollenbach. Great Grandchildren, Enola Algarin, Keath Heffner, Dawson DeBebe, D.J. DeBebe, Aleah DeBebe, Alex Molena, Carmine Thomas, Sasha King, Keiriana Lowery, Leilah Mackey, Kyro Ludwig and Richard A. Mackey IV. Step-Great Grandchildren, Anthony and Grayson Hollenbach. Richard is predeceased by his brothers, Edward J. Mackey and Donald P. Mackey.

Funeral Services were  held at the Linwood W. Ott Funeral Home, Inc. 111 North Reading Ave. Boyertown, PA, 19512, on December 30, 2023. 

Burial is in Most Blessed Sacrament Church Cemetery, Bally, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Richard's name to a childrens or veterans organization of your choice.
