Over 1,000 prom dresses in all colors, sizes, and styles; shoes; purses; and accessories will again be available for the trying on and taking at Boyertown’s YMCA, 301 W. Spring Street, Boyertown, on Saturday and Sunday, March 9 -10 from 12 to 4 p.m.

For nine years, the Boyertown Junior Woman’s Club has organized an event they call Once Upon a Prom in which dozens of girls attend from local communities and surrounding school districts and leave with a dress or two in hand and a smile on their face!” says Anita Zuber, BJWC member and coordinator of the event.

"Dresses are very expensive. And let's face it, they're worn usually only one time," she continues. "I love when the girls are trying them on, and you hear them say, 'Oh, I like this one. But I like this one.' And then we tell them, 'Take them both, take all three!' and they just get so excited," she continues. "We even have moms come and get dresses; no one is left out.”

In an interview on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, with Channel 69 news, Anita recalls the beginning of the event: "I'm a member here at the YMCA. And one day I was in the locker room, and an older woman said to me, 'You're Mrs. Zuber, aren't you?' And I said, 'Yes.' And she said, 'Well, I have an idea. And I think you're the person to do it. That’s how it all began.”

There is no charge for the dress or accessories. Monetary donations in any amount are accepted and donated to Boyertown YMCA and other local charities.
