Boyertown's Schools Demonstrate Pledge as a No Place for Hate Community

May 7, 2024, students and staff of the Boyertown school community will demonstrate their appreciation for diversity by participating in a "No Place for Hate Day" by wearing a "No Place for Hate" t-shirt.

Boyertown schools have been designated as No Place for Hate schools by the Anti-Defamation League since 2006. Boyertown's elementary schools were the first elementary schools in Pennsylvania to earn the designation, and the district was the first in the state to be recognized in the program.

The program, forwarded by the Anti-Defamation League, helps schools in efforts to prevent and respond to hatred, reduce bias and bullying, increase appreciation for diversity and build a community of respect. 

Each year, activities are planned in the district's schools to commemorate the pledge. The community has responded to the program; in 2009 Studio B Art Gallery was commissioned to install a mural expressing the "No Place for Hate" theme. Designed by fine artist Amanda Condict, the mural was painted by students and members of the community and featured a parade on the side of Rita's Water Ice.

A new mural, "A Better Bear," designed by Chris B. Murray, was installed in 2023, through the efforts of Building a Better Boyertown and community fundraising after the original mural was vandalized.
