Dr. Olapeju Simoyan (a.k.a. Peju, The Doctor Writer and The Doctor Singer) is a physician who strongly believes in bridging the gap between science and art.

A result of COVID inspired Peju in 2021 to focus on the “positive aspects of otherwise negative situations": deeper relationships and technology that allowed communication and work from home. She offers, "I found inspiration in working together through difficult times."

Peju combines her various interests in innovative ways: writing, singing, and photography. She has released a CD of Christmas music, a book exploring the histories of favorite carols as well as a devotional booklet to aid in personal development.

Of her CD--“The Little Drummer Boy” and Other Christmas Favorites"--she says, “I was inspired to record these songs by my love for music and specifically Christmas songs. I hope that you will enjoy the collection as much as I enjoyed working on it and that you will be blessed and inspired.

"As we continue to pray for peace on earth and goodwill toward all, may you and your loved ones experience peace, joy, and blessings not only at Christmas time, but throughout the year," she continues.

All songs were recorded at Cross Keys Recording in Reading, PA. Vocals featured keyboards, sax, recorder, steel drums, and the ukulele played by Peju. All other instruments were played by Marty Mellinger with additional engineering and mixing by Andrew Kline.

In her book "I Played My Best for Him," Peju explores the stories behind each song--the lives of the lyricists and composers, the context in which the songs were written, and other details underlining the themes of hope and peace. In bowing to her scientific training, Peju provided the sources where she found the information.

“I Played My Best for Him” tells the fictional story of a poor boy who came to see Christ, the newborn King. While he had no gift to bring with him, the gift he gave was priceless: he shared his talent by playing the drum.

Peju urges, "This story is a powerful reminder that even with limited resources, we can make a positive impact on those around us by giving our time, talent, and perhaps other resources. I hope you will be inspired."

Addiction medicine is her calling as she works with clients to slow down, recall the life cycle of the butterfly, and reflect on the process of growth needed to stay grounded.

"The Amazing World of Butterflies" and "Giraffes Are Amazing" provide photographs and recent scientific information, reflections comparing modern medicine and nature, the limits of science and technology, and the importance of developing intuition as a means to calming anxiety, remaining inspired and uplifted.

Meet Peju at Studio B on Black Friday afternoon--November 29, 2024 between 12 and 4. Find the podcast episode on your favorite podcast platform.
