Gilbertsville Elementary School (GES) students have been reading in ten minute increments and and keeping track of their “downs” in order to score reading touchdowns.
Based on that, GES recently hosted a celebratory assembly recognizing student achievements in reading. With some help from Mr. Palladino, Boyertown Area School District Athletic Director (BASD), two surprise guests attended the assembly. Both are BASD alums having an impact on the current American sports scene.
James Develin, former New England Patriot, and Jerry Kapp, current St. Lousi Battle Hawk, joined GES staff and students to announce their total minutes read. Develin and Kapp also shared personal messages about the importance of reading, education, and the life lessons they carry with them from their days as a BASD student.

Hi Mark Noonan here, husband of the amazing Julianne. Great article - just one small error - I did not grow up in Phoenixville but in a rural area of NE Pennsylvania. Thanks for writing this article!
