Student Group Plans and Fundraises for BASH Veterans Memorial

Only a few days remain for people to purchase a brick in the new Boyertown Area Senior High (BASH) Veterans Memorial. The project is the creation of the high school's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter, and they hope to wrap up sales by June 30.

FBLA has shared that the projected project cost is about $35,000 and they are only a few thousand dollars away from the goal. The project timeline calls for the engraved bricks to be orders in July and the entire construction of the memorial to be finished by Veterans Day.

According to the school district website, "The memorial features 8x8 inch granite tiles for each service member who lost his life serving our country." The memorial will be located at the high school's main entrance.

Three kinds of bricks can be purchased: 4x8 Honor Bricks that honor someone who served in the US military; 4x8 Donor Bricks that enable local individuals or businesses to help support the project; and 8X8 Sponsor Bricks that serve the same purpose as Donor Bricks but are twice as large.  BASH students Daman Sangha, Ryan Zeleznock, and Ryan Schatz created the project blueprint.

It has been determined that 79 American military members who lived within the school district have died in active service since the time of the Civil War. While there have been some individual efforts at recognizing some of these individuals, a single unified tribute to all of these local heroes has never before been created. FBLA is striving to change that. The memorial will also recognize "other local heroes."
