Last Night's Sky Provided a Rare Show
The seeming increase in frequency and strength of geomagnetic storms repetitively has offered the promise that we could get to see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) in our area, even though they are not normally visible this far south. But each time, the weather has intervened by clouding the sky or bringing rain. However, last night Mother Nature brought us clear skies... and at long last... the Northern Lights. Keep your camera handy as tomorrow night could bring a repeat performance.
Boyertown Native in Florida Welcomes Hometown Aid
Vickie Gresh Acree, born and bred in Boyertown, decided to leave her home in Tampa Bay, FL and relocate to a resort in the Orlando area to ride out the storm. She shared her adventure on Facebook, explaining that she was on the 6th floor of a concrete building and that the hotel was distributing Glow Sticks in case power was lost. Vickie showed her Boyertown survival skills by noting that she had her "Instapot to make pork and kraut!"
Feeling well-prepared, Vickie decided to enjoy the lead-up to the storm.
Vickie's first hint of the approaching storm was a "huge boom outside." Around that time, a tornado warning was issued. A few hours later, Vickie described "a hard rain continuing to fall," and shared this news photo of the area about a mile from her house.
As the storm continued, Vickie shared a variety of photos and videos from newscasts. The hours passed, taking the storm with them and eventually, responding to a friend's inquiry, Vickie updated her Facebook readers, "Just found out my lil beach pad got thru Cat 3 Hurricane Milton....so far I believe.... minimal damage! No power, water, sewer. Cannot return at this time.Community / surrounding area great destruction from wind plus flooded areas from rain not storm surge"
A post on Facebook caught Vickie's attention: "Boyertown Salvation Army.... The Salvation Army's disaster response trucks are on the move, delivering meals, supplies, and hope to the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Milton, including our very own Captain Jared Starnes who left this morning for Florida."
Sharing the post, Vickie commented, "THANK YOU SO MUCH! Coming to help us in Florida from my hometown in PA!!!! Safe Travels! Stay Safe! Please let us know where you will be upon arriving in Florida!!! Lots of people here from Boyertown Area!"
