Middle School West Students Make Math Count

A team from Boyertown Middle School West won the 42nd annual regional MATHCOUNTS competition at Penn State Berks. The winning team was comprised of Brandon Rizzo, Daniel Kovach, Brady James and Anthony Mercovich. Their coaches were Kristy Parish and Mallory Jakoby.

Boyertown Middle School East finished second and Wilson West Middle School finished third.

Individual winners were:

First Place – Vincent DeJoseph; Wilson West School West 

Second Place – Brandon Rizzo; Boyertown Middle School West

Third Place – Leonore Das; Wyomissing Area Junior High School

Fourth Place – Daniel Kovach; Boyertown Middle School West 

MATHCOUNTS is a competitive event in which students answer math questions. The program aims to encourage and improve the study of mathematics. 

This year's competition pitted 9 schools and 81 individuals in grades six to eight, with a trip to a state competition on the line. 

The winning team, along with the top four individual finishers, will travel to Harrisburg on March 21-22 for the state competition.
