Boyertown Area Choral Arts (BACA) will bring the magic of Broadway to life with their upcoming concert on Sunday, May 4, at 3 p.m. The concert will be held at Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, located at 35 West Philadelphia Avenue in Boyertown.
Under the direction of Donna House, and accompanied by Robin Ward, the 50-member chorus will present a lively program themed "Broadway Show Tunes," featuring some of their favorites, including Children Will Listenfrom Into the Woods, Defying Gravity from Wicked, Make Them Hear You from Ragtime, and When You Believe from The Prince of Egypt.
Now in its 35th year, with a brief hiatus during Covid, Boyertown Area Choral Arts was founded after the retirement of longtime Boyertown Area High School vocal music teacher Margaretta (Peg) Lamb. Lamb directed the ensemble until 2010, when she passed the baton to House, whose similar conducting style made the transition seamless.
Admission to the May 4 concert is free, though a free-will offering will be collected. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Margaretta R. Lamb Scholarship, awarded annually to a graduating Boyertown Area Senior High student pursuing vocal music studies.
In addition to their spring concert, BACA traditionally presents a Holiday Concert on the first Sunday of December. Originally open only to BASH alumni, BACA membership is now open to the entire community, welcoming singers who share a love for music and performance. Rehearsals are held Monday evenings from February through early May and from September through early December at Good Shepherd UCC.
For a delightful afternoon of Broadway’s finest melodies, mark your calendars and join Boyertown Area Choral Arts for this special performance. Refreshments including punch and cookies will be served in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the concert for all audience members. We hope to see you there!
